Battery Systems Engineer (Ulm, Germany)

Battery Systems Engineer (Ulm, Germany)

Battery Systems Engineer (Pack & BMS)

Location: Ulm, Germany (on-site; partial home office possible for software work)

Type: Full-time

Seniority: Open - from strong mid-level to senior. Hands-on field experience is expected.

About the role

We are building a new standard for low-voltage batteries and we want you to help define it from the ground up. Using next-generation sodium-ion cells, we design 12/24/48 V battery packs with the potential to open up a large and largely untapped market.

As our Battery Systems Engineer, you own the design of these packs end to end: from mechanical/electrical pack architecture to the battery management system (BMS) that keeps them safe, efficient, and reliable. This is a foundational role. You won't be one engineer among hundreds tuning an existing product. You'll be building the product, and helping build the company around it.

If you want direct impact, real ownership, and the chance to be there from the very beginning, this is for you.

What you'll do

  • Design 12 V / 24 V / 48 V battery packs based on novel sodium-ion cells from concept to working prototype.
  • Develop and specify the BMS: cell balancing, monitoring, safety, and communication.
  • Make architecture decisions on cell configuration, thermal management, safety, and mechanical integration.
  • Build, test, and validate prototypes; iterate quickly based on real measurement data.
  • Help define what a new low-voltage battery standard looks like.
  • Work closely with the founding team and shape decisions that move the whole company forward.

What we're looking for

  • A degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field.
  • Hands-on experience designing battery packs and BMS, ideally at a battery manufacturer or automotive OEM/supplier.
  • Solid understanding of pack architecture, safety requirements, and low-voltage systems.
  • Solid understanding of battery production and manufacturing so you design systems that are mass-producible from the start.
  • A dynamic, self-driven personality who takes real ownership and thrives with a high degree of autonomy.
  • The drive to build something new rather than maintain something existing.

Please include work samples or concrete project examples in your CV. We want to see what you've actually designed and built. Any exposure to bringing a battery product from prototype to production is a plus.

What we offer

  • Direct impact. Your work can genuinely move our company and products forward.
  • Real ownership. A dynamic environment that rewards initiative — you shape the outcome, not just execute tickets.
  • Ground-floor opportunity. Be part of building a company from the start, with the influence that comes with it.
  • Competitive compensation.
  • Flexibility. Based in Ulm, with partial home office possible for software development.

How to apply
